The ever increasing requirements that the aircraft must meet, demands the use of new aerodynamic configurations because the ones that are currently in use have exhausted their potential for further improvement.

The Joined wing has a number of advantages that might address the requirements for the economic efficiency. Thus a Joined wing will be developed to primarily test drag response due to lift with change in wing planform i.e. from plane to closed wing. It is important to understand that the joined wing is a highly integrated concept that links structural and aerodynamic features in novel ways. Therefore this study will first outline the principles of the joined wing and then perform a comparative aerodynamic study showing the various performance and parameters for the wings of different configurations and thus comparing the parameters. The discussions are focused on the aerodynamics characteristics which include drag coefficient CD, lift coefficient CL, and lift-to-drag ratio L/D.  One of the objectives of this work is reduce the induced drag formed on wing during the fight operation, thus improving the efficiency of the aircraft.

The analysis part is done by using the ANSYS Software, flow characteristics and parameters are measured for different design configurations and are compared with the conventional wing configuration model. A knowledge based approach is also used in this research and all the models are parameterized so each model could be varied with their respective parameters.
